Map analog line roles

Classify every copper line before choosing a model. Station devices need FXS, outside lines need FXO, and mixed sites should document both counts.

Know when to choose Analog Cards

Analog Cards are designed for PBX servers that need internal FXS or FXO expansion. If the site needs an external SIP adapter, a standalone branch gateway, digital trunk access, or mixed-interface telephony, another OpenVox product family may be a better fit.

Internal PBX card deployment

  • The PBX host can accept a PCI or PCIe telephony card.
  • Copper wiring should terminate directly on the server.
  • The team owns OS, Asterisk, and DAHDI planning.

External ATA deployment

  • The site needs an Ethernet-connected adapter.
  • Phones or fax devices need SIP account access.
  • The site needs endpoint adaptation, not server card expansion.

Branch gateway deployment

  • The site needs a standalone voice gateway.
  • Analog voice is part of a broader access requirement.
  • The buyer expects Ethernet, SIP, and standalone operation.

Digital or hybrid card deployment

  • The trunk side is PRI, BRI, T1, E1, J1, SS7, or R2.
  • The plan combines analog ports with digital spans.
  • Card-based telephony is needed, but FXS/FXO alone is not enough.
